          The First Baptist Church of Lake City is one of the Pioneer Baptist Churches in the State of Iowa. Early settlers on the North Bank of the Raccoon River southwest of Lake City met together for Christian Service, and on May 12, 1861 a meeting was called for the purpose of organizing a Baptist Church. It was served by traveling missionaries going from settlement to settlement.
          In 1864 they organized the first Sunday School in Calhoun County. In 1877 articles of incorporation were adopted and the name changed to "The First Baptist Church". In 1882 the first church and parsonage were erected. In 1961 the Education Building was built, and in the years of 1975 to 1980 there was a total renovation of both the Sanctuary Building and the Parsonage.
          There have been seventeen people go out from this congregation into Christian Service. The church has also maintained a Christian outreach into the local community and in Missions around the world, through the Mid-American Baptist Churches and the American Baptist Churches in the USA. Currently we have Interim Pastor Gary Dooley as our pastor. We have Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and Morning Worship at 11 a.m. each Sunday.
